Do I Qualify for Medical Marijuana?

Florida's medical marijuana program has specific requirements. Find out if you're eligible and take the first step today.

Florida Eligibility Requirements

Florida Resident

Must be a legal resident of Florida. Acceptable proof includes a valid FL driver's license, state ID, utility bills, lease agreements, or official mail showing your Florida address.

Age 18 or Older

You must be at least 18 years old. Minors may qualify with a parent or legal guardian serving as a designated caregiver and certifications from two physicians.

Qualifying Condition

You must have been officially diagnosed by a physician with at least one qualifying condition recognized under Florida law. The diagnosis must be documented in your medical records.

Physician Certification

A certified Florida OMMU physician like Dr. Stratt must evaluate you and determine that medical cannabis may benefit your condition — particularly when other treatment options have not provided adequate relief.

How Dr. Stratt Determines Your Eligibility

As a certified OMMU physician, Dr. Stratt's role is to thoroughly review your medical history and determine whether medical cannabis represents an appropriate treatment pathway for your specific condition. Cannabis is considered an alternative treatment option — particularly when other methods of treatment have not provided adequate symptom relief.

If Dr. Stratt determines that no other feasible treatment options exist or that conventional treatments have been insufficient, he will authorize medical marijuana for the patient and create a specific dosing plan tailored to your condition and health profile.

Terminal Illness Patients

Patients suffering from a terminal illness may be assessed by any board-certified physician and do not require a separate certification from a designated OMMU physician. However, FDA-approved treatment options must have been explored prior to cannabis therapy. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.

Conditions Not Listed?

If you have a condition that is not specifically listed under Florida law, you may still be eligible for medical marijuana treatment. With thorough review of your medical history, Dr. Stratt can determine whether your condition qualifies under the "other debilitating conditions" provision. Call (561) 571-9076 to discuss.

Seasonal Residents & Snowbirds

You do not need to be a year-round Florida resident to qualify for a medical marijuana card. Seasonal residents — including snowbirds who spend part of the year in Florida — are eligible under Florida Statute 381.986 as long as they have resided in the state for at least 31 consecutive days per year.

Acceptable proof of seasonal residency includes a Florida driver's license or state-issued ID, utility bills in your name at a Florida address, a Florida lease agreement, or official mail (bank statements, government correspondence) showing your Florida address. If you have questions about whether your documentation is sufficient, call our office at (561) 571-9076 before your appointment.
